Kerry Gossett, CRNA
Partner
As a CRNA with more than 20 years' clinical experience in a variety of settings, Kerry Gossett has demonstrated a talent for anesthesia and a passion for developing leaders and leadership programs. Kerry currently holds the position of Clinical Director of Anesthesia at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, and has served as Chief CRNA and Department Manager at Birmingham's HealthSouth Medical Center, as well as clinical coordinator for Baptist Medical Center-Princeton. He's assisted in the design and implementation of several office-based surgery projects and was instrumental in forming VitalMed's sister company, VitalSource. Kerry graduated from the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing and also holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Anesthesia from Samford University. He previously served on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists, is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Larry Hornsby, CRNA
Partner, Past President of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists
Larry Hornsby is a critical VitalMed connection to the close-knit CRNA community. As a CRNA with experience in all aspects of clinical anesthesia, Larry has worked as an anesthetist in many types of clinical settings, including office-based practices, multi-specialty medical centers, and ambulatory surgical centers. Most significantly, Larry served as President of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for 2001, which speaks volumes about the respect within the industry for his skill and integrity. Larry holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as well as a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Anesthesia from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has served in numerous capacities with the Alabama Association of Nurse Anesthetists, including two terms as President, and previously served on the Alabama Board of Nursing Advisory Council to the Practice & Disciplinary Committee. In addition, he was an appointee to the Governor's Task Force on Nursing (Alabama) and served five years on JCAHO's Ambulatory Professional Technical Advisory Committee. Currently, Larry serves as the Chair of the AANA's Payment Advisory Committee. Larry also speaks extensively about important topics related to increased productivity and other business issues related to anesthesia.
Barry Stuman, MD
Partner
Barry Stuman is an experienced and skilled physician, and one of VitalMed's three shareholders. His background and knowledge of every aspect of anesthesia provides the all-important physician perspective we need to help anesthesia operations of every type thrive. Dr. Stuman holds the degree of Doctor of Medicine from The University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama, where he also did his undergraduate work. There, he graduated Suma Cum Laude Diplomat and was awarded for academic achievement in microbiology. He later completed his residency in Anesthesiology at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. From 1985 until 2003, Dr. Stuman worked with Anesthesiology Group LLC, Baptist Medical Center South Montgomery. While there, he served as Chief of Anesthesia and Medical Director of Baptist's Same Day Surgery Center. Dr. Stuman is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Alabama State Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia.

Vikki Curry
Manager, Billing Operations and Call Center
Vikki Curry gives VitalMed the specific billing expertise so absolutely critical to anesthesia. Her knowledge of current billing and reimbursement issues and her experience in resolving outstanding claims issues with insurance companies is invaluable to our success—and to yours. She's spent more than 15 years in the business side of the healthcare industry, managing billing operations for Computer Services Corporation, serving as an Account Manager and A/R consultant for a national software vendor, and managing multi-million dollar account receivables for clinics and emergency departments throughout the Southeast. In addition to her position at VitalMed, Vikki has served as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There, she taught the Administrative Medical Specialist course, focusing on medical terminology, ICD-9 and CPT coding, and insurance billing and reimbursement. Vikki attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she majored in Information Management Systems.
Susan Hengel
Director, Human Resources
The quality of the human element holds the real potential of any organization, and true specialists in the field of Human Resources are a scarce and valuable asset. Because we want to offer you premium service in every area of anesthesia, VitalMed has partnered with Cypress Resources to be able to include Susan Hengel as our Director of Human Resources. Susan is a senior human resources generalist and executive coach with over 20 years' experience in mid- to executive-level management roles. Prior to her affiliation with Cypress, she served as Senior Vice President and General Management for the Birmingham office of an international career management/leadership consulting firm. Past experience in HR, operations, and sales roles in retail, medical services, construction, and manufacturing have given her a broad understanding of business issues in a variety of settings. A native of Minnesota, Susan relocated to the sunny south in the mid-eighties, where she earned both her BBA (Summa Cum Laude) and MBA from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is past president of the Birmingham and Atlanta Societies for Human Resource Management and is a Certified Professional in Human Resources.
Sandra Junkin, CPA
Director, Finance
The importance of certified accounting expertise can never be overstated, and Sandra Junkin is among the best in the healthcare industry. As VitalMed's Director of Finance, her integrity and knowledge will quickly become instrumental to your daily operation, providing top-tier financial disciplines that will help bring profit and expense into alignment. Just as importantly, she represents a credible voice in every audit situation. Sandra graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, and passed the difficult CPA exam in one sitting. She worked in public accounting for four years with industry-leader Coopers & Lybrand on top healthcare industry accounts before moving to other key managerial roles in accounting and finance within the healthcare industry. Sandra joined VitalMed in 2006.
Samantha S. Mullins, CPC, PMCC, MCS-P, ACS-AN
Manager, Coding and Compliance
Samantha is a key element of VitalMed's success and critical to the success of our clients. She has a natural aptitude for the extreme complexities of anesthesia coding and has already achieved a very high level of expertise and broad recognition in the area. After attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Samantha became one of the youngest professionals in the nation to earn the title of Certified Professional Coder via the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). She has since attained various other certifications and recognitions, enabling VitalMed to become a credible authority on anesthesia coding issues of all types. Samantha served various offices in the Birmingham (Magic City) chapter of the AAPC. She served as President-Elect in 2003, President in 2004, and she is an approved instructor for the AAPC's Professional Medical Coding Curriculum (PMCC). She also currently serves on the anesthesia specialty board for the Board of Advanced Medical Coding (BAMC) and holds their Advanced Coding Specialist Anesthesia (ASC-AN) certification. In addition, she has a certification as a Medical Compliance Specialist Physician Based (MCS-P). Not surprisingly, she is often asked to share her knowledge at various conferences.
Scott Welch
President
As President of VitalMed, Scott Welch spends much of his time implementing and enhancing the various types of expertise that help make us irreplaceable to our clients. His experience doing so is broad and began as a graduate of Birmingham's Samford University. In his career, he has served as Director of Internal Audit for a Fortune 500 Company, managed a large CBO with several multi-million dollar accounts, and served as Practice Administrator for several practices. Scott was also a senior manager for a national physician practice management software company, charged with oversight responsibility for consulting, EDI, help desk, implementation, training, and account management functions.
